Show information and plot

Chesapeake Shores is a Canadian-American drama series that has debuted with a two-hour premiere on Hallmark Channel on August 14, 2016. The series is based on characters from an eponymous Sheryl Woods novel and was developed by Dan Paulson. It is executive produced by John Tinker, Dan Paulson, Martin Woods, Nancey Silvers and Sherryl Woods and hails from Chesapeake Shores 51 Productions Inc.

Maghan Ory stars as Abby O`Brien, a divorced mother of two girls and a high-powered NYC career woman. After being away from her family and hometown she returns to Chesapeake Shores to help her sister with the inn she`s running. She is forced to confront her family and Trace Riley (Jesse Metcalf), her first love, who still can not forgive her abrupt leave and their unexpected breakup. A successful country musician, Trace is also in town for a visit, but when they meet again, a flame is reignited.

Impressive ratings and chances of renewal

The show had a very impressive launch with 1.942 million viewers, and a 1.42 rating in the P50+ demo and 0.45 rating in W18-49. The subsequent episodes fared just as well, indicating a solid interest of the network`s target audience. Critics are somewhat skeptical of the show`s predictability and the glossed over, pristine world portrayed in it. Nonetheless, the writing and pacing, as well as the acting ensemble are all praised, and the chemistry between the leads is perfect. An 8.1/10 IMDb score and the positive reviews show improvement over Hallmark`s previous original scripted shows. All in all, there seems to be strong renewal potential in Chesapeake Shores, so please stay tuned and we will let you know when a Hallmark makes a decision on the fate of the show.

Season 1 recap

The freshman season of Hallmark’s generational drama series Chesapeake Shores concluded its broadcast on October 9, 2016 with record-breaking ratings, making it the most successful series to ever run on the network. It also boosted Hallmark’s ratings in several demos to #1 non-cable news channel in its time slot for the night. The viewership grew by 12% in the W25-54 demo throughout the season, ending with a 2.3 demo rating and 2.5 million total viewers. The final episode featured Trace and Abby’s custody battle settling with the original set-up plan in place and Jess preparing for the official opening of her bed and breakfast, with the unexpected cliffhanger ending portraying Trace’s arrest and some lingering questions remaining for the creative team to work on in the next season. What was the reason behind Trace’s arrest, will Bree return to Chicago, will Kevin’s engagement to Georgia work out? While the series has not yet been renewed for another installment, it would be logical to assume that it will be commissioned for another installment, so we will monitor the announcements and keep you informed about the fate of Chesapeake Shores.
