About the series
A comedy-drama series hailing from Australian and New Zealand filmmakers, 800 Words debuted on Seven in 2015, and has launched its second series on August 16, 2016. The show is created by James Griffin and Maxine Fleming, executive produced by Kelly Martin, Chris Bailey, James Griffin, John Holmes and Julie McGauran and produced by Seven Productions and South Pacific Films.
George Turner (Erik Thomson) is about to change his life completely. He is a recent widower, he quits his job and buys a house in a distant New Zealand town by the seaside. How will the transition from being a popular columnist at a top-rated Sydney newspaper to a small town resident with an uncertain future go? To complicate things, his two teenage children Shay (Melinda Vidler) and Arlo (Benson Jack Anthony) are also faced with the need to deal with their father`s single-handed decision. Nothing goes according to George`s plan, but that may ultimately be for the best.
Strong ratings and chances of renewal
The first series of 800 Words fared extremely well ratings-wise, maintaining an average of over one million live viewers for the duration of the whole installment. The second series started off with 0.88 million live viewers and slipping to 0.74 million for the second episode, which is still a very reasonable number. The show has garnered mostly positive reviews and has a 7.4/10 IMDb score. Although Seven has not mentioned a third series of 800 Words yet, it does seem likely that the show will be renewed, tapping into our downshifting fantasies once again. Stay tuned for announcements!
