About the series

Mammon is a hit Norwegian investigative drama series that was originally released in Norway on January 1, 2014, with the UK premiere following on March 17, 2014. The second season was directed by Cecilie Mosli and premiered on January 3, 2016. It was produced by NRK Drama and turned out to be one of the highest-rated NRK crime drama series ever.

A six-part first series of Mammon reconstructs six consecutive days in the life of journalist Peter Verås (Jon Øigarden), in the course of which he finds evidence of financial fraud that incriminates his own brother Daniel. The series is created by Vegard and Gjermund Stenberg Eriksen, brothers who explore the difficulties in sibling relationships alongside murder and political intrigue that are at the core of the plot. The hunt for truth becomes personal for the lead character, as he explores just how far it is possible to go on this path. The tagline for the series is, in fact, “What are you willing to sacrifice?”

Renewal possibilities

The first series premiered on More4 to 255 000 viewers, a number below the time slot average. The Scandinavian thriller genre has taken up very well on the British soil, and this is another one to follow in the footsteps of The Bridge and Borgen. Will it be as successful as the latter two? Critics have welcomed Mammon warmly for its intricate plot, dark psychological insights and eerie charm. Hopefully, the series will find as much viewer support as other Scandinavian hits and will continue to grace the small screens internationally.
