Series format and cast
A reality travel series series, Better Late Than Never is a US production based on the popular South Korean show format, titled Grandpas Over Flowers. The show debuted on NBC on August 23, 2016 and is presented by four American national treasures – William Shatner, Henry Winkler, George Foreman and Terry Bradshaw together with a younger comic Jeff Dye. Universal Television and Storyline entertainment are behind the production, and Winkler, Jason Ehrlich, Tim Crescent, Craig Zadan, Neil Meron, Stephanie Chambers, Alex Katz and D.J.Lee executive producing. There are four episodes in the freshman chapter.
The crew backpacks through Asia and experiences authentic cultures, with no luxury hotels or Michelin restaurant stops on the way. Their long-standing friendship and reliance on each other throughout the trip are ultimately more important in the show than the exotic venues. So far the audience was witness to the backpackers’ visits to Tokyo, Kyoto, Hong Kong and Seoul.
Positive reception and renewal potential
The show’s very well received by critics and viewers alike. The first two episodes ran with 7.35 and 7.33 million viewer audiences, furthermore, the show already boasts an 8.7/10 IMDb score, denoting universal acclaim. The fish-out-of-the-water reality comedy with its relatable, witty, joyful and sometimes sad moments may very well see a second season – in any case, we’d love it if it did. Sincerity, humanity and genuine laughs are not that easy to come by, especially all in one show. Stay tuned, and we will let you know if it is renewed.
