Hip hop competition format and production info
One Shot is a brand new hip hop competition series launched by BET on August 23, 2016. The show is executive produced by Mike Smith, Sway, Kxng Crooked and King Tech and hosted by Sway. The celebrity judge roster includes T.I., The Game, DJ Khaled, Tech 9, RZA, Charlamagne Tha God, DJ Drama, E-40 and Twista.
The show’s premise is to allow the best among the rising hip hop stars to showcase their talents rather than look for newcomers. The search for the new superstar will be conducted based on the participants’ stage presence, skills and showmanship and takes place in three consecutive rounds, with contestants eliminated in each, and an explosive final competition round. One Shot is currently the only place that allows new artists to vie for public attention of this scale. The lucky winner will walk away with a record deal and $100,000.
Ratings and potential renewal
One Shot premiered to an audience of 0.249 million viewers and a 0.1 demo rating, with the subsequent episode sliding down to 197,000 million viewers and a 0,08 rating, Veteran recording artist, executive producer and record label owner Mike Smith did a great job on the current season, from early live audition that were held in 4 cities (Atlanta, Miami, Chicago and Charlotte) and 30,000 applicants to choose from to the celebrity judges that he brought in. We believe that the first nation-wide hip hop-specific television competition program deserves another season. Whether or not it does is not yet understood, so please stay tuned, and we’ll keep you informed.
