Storyline and production info
A popular AMC series launched in 2014, Halt and Catch Fire is a period drama set in the 1980s in Texas. It was created by Christopher Cantwell and Christopher C. Rogers, executive produced by Cantwell, Rogers, Jonathan Lisco, Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein and hails from AMC Studios, Lockjaw Productions and Gran Via Productions. The current ten-episode third season debuted on August 23, 2016.
The personal computer boom is portrayed through the eyes of people who came together to create Mutiny, a fictionalized innovative company that has the guts to confront corporate giants of that time, such as IBM. Texan Silicon Prairie in Dallas serves as the setting for the clash of the three protagonists’ egos – Mutiny’s CEO Cameron (Mackenzie Davis), and co-founders, Joe (Lee Pace) and ( Gordon (Scoot McNairy) risk everything to bring their vision of a new generation of personal computers to life and start a revolution.
Current season and renewal potential
Season 3 premiered to 339,000 viewers and a 0.11 rating in the 18-49 demo. The following week’s episode saw an increase in viewership to 397,000 viewers and a 0.14 demo rating. While the viewership ratings are not exactly stellar, down from season 2’s average of 0.5 million viewers the reviews and aggregator website scores are excellent. The show currently has a score of 86% on Rotten Tomatoes and 8.2/10 on IMDb, and while the viewership has been decreasing over the course of the series’ run, it still seems to have excellent prospects of renewal. Season 3 recap
AMC`s popular period drama series Halt and Catch Fire bowed out on October 11, 2016, wrapping up its 10-episode third season. The season finale drew an unimpressive audience of 0.287 million viewers, which is dangerously close to the season low of 0.28 million viewers. The season ended with Donna leaving the very project that she created (it was mostly Cameron who insisted on her departure), so the next season will start off with Joe, Gordon and Cameron heading into the future. Donna, on the other hand, is quick to deal with her despair and heads to Switzerland to join their former competitors. The show has already been renewed for a fourth and final season, slated to premiere next year, so we are hoping for an eventful chapter that will allow the story arcs to end gracefully, and the characters to develop to their fullest potential. Stay tuned and we will inform you when the next season`s release date is confirmed by the network.
UPDATED October 12, 2016: Fans are safe for now, since Halt and Catch Fire has been renewed by AMC for a fourth season, which will contain 10 episodes and should air in 2017. However, the piece of news that is bound to disappoint the viewers is the fact that it will be the final season for the show. The vintage tech drama was canceled due to the fact that it failed to deliver impressive ratings, yet the network offered the creators a chance to complete the story arcs and end the series in a meaningful manner. Farewell, Halt and Catch Fire.
