About the series
Excellent news for the fans of truly offbeat British comedy – Catastrophe`s Sharon Horgan and Utopia`s Dennis Kelly are once again collaborating on a comedy script, after a 10-year break since their previous project together, the delightful Pulling series. The Circuit is a British comedy series produced by Merman, executive produced by Horgan and Kelly, and airing on Channel 4 since August 25, 2016. The first series contains six half-hour episodes.
The series features the worst ever dinner party that you can imagine, the nightmare party that no one wanted to attend in the first place. The forced social engagements are a relatable subject, and Horgan ad Kelly of taking the everyday to the level of absurdity where the dinner-party staples quickly turn into insults and violence. Gabe (Adeel Akhtar) and Nat (Eva Birthistle) have moved into a new neighborhood and are invited to a different dinner party each week, where its own special brand of insanity escalates tremendously and hilariously in one evening.
Reviews and renewal potential
The one-off sitcom is garnering excellent reviews. It is a gritty, filthy comedy satirizing the very essence of middle class values, and immerses the viewer in a somewhat depressing, yet irresistibly entertaining interpretation of the dinner party from hell. Channel 4 has not yet commissioned a second series of The Circuit, so we will monitor network announcements and bring you the latest news as it becomes available.
