Series format and general info
The Big Music Quiz is a new Australian game show adapted from a French program format. Produced by Shine Australia and presented by Darren McMillan, it debuted on Seven on August 28, 2016. The show is filmed in Docklands in Melbourne with active participation from live studio audience that is required to stand and dance on cue as part of the show.
The game in each episode contains six rounds of music trivia competition with contestants split up into two teams – Warm Up, Unlikely Covers, Headphone Heroes, Personal Playlist, Twisted Tunes and The Final. The first five are team rounds, and the last one is played out by individual participants fending for themselves. Contestants are celebrities hailing from various fields – music, sports, comedy, television, and others. The guest list for the first installment includes the likes of Ella Hooper, Lawrence Mooney, Joel Creasey, Rebel Wilson, Kate Cebrano, Claire Hooper, Claire Bowditch, and many others.
Strong ratings and renewal potential
The show premiered with very impressive numbers – 1.211 million overnight viewers tuned in to see the debut of The Big Music Quiz. The subsequent episodes, however, attracted a smaller crowd, with 0.843 million viewers for the third episode. Adding a contemporary edge to traditional entertainment, fans can download the app and play the game at home.
