Show format and production info
Singer and pop icon Christina Aguilera is executive producing a new musical competition game show Tracks for Spike TV. Produced by Mission Control Media and MX Productions, the program is hosted by Bow Wow (actor and rapper Shad Moss). The show premiered on September 1, 2016 and features surprise performances by well-known musicians. Both of the back-to-back premiere episodes are to feature performances by Aguilera.
The format of the game is based on teams of two contestants trying to guess the song by listening to just a single instrumental or vocal track. Focusing on just one component of a song is not a very easy task, and offers an innovative twist on the song-guessing game shows.
Unstable viewership and renewal prospects
It is difficult to reliably predict the series’ future, but at this point it does not look particularly bright. Tracks premiered with a 0.12 demo rating and 0.265 million viewers, the second episode that immediately followed drew an audience of merely 0.198 million viewers, and the show fell off the radar by the next week. If Tracks could hold on to at least these numbers, a renewal would seem feasible, but since the viewership is extremely low and unstable, the show may not last. Tracks came around after another program, Lip Sync Battle, which offers a winning mix of music and celebrity guests became an all-around hit, but so far it is failing to make a similar impact on the audience. Please stay tuned and we will inform you of Tracks’ fate as soon as the network makes any relevant announcements.
