About the series
Our Girl is a British military drama television series created and written by Tony Grounds, executive produced by John Yorke and Caroline Skinner. The first series was launched in 2015, and the current second installment premiered on September 7, 2016.
The first installment follows the deployment of Molly Dawes (Lacey Turner) as an army medic in the British Army to Afghanistan. Our Girl series 2 introduced a new protagonist, another medical officer – Lance Corporal Georgie Lane (Michelle Keegan) who is deployed to an East African refugee camp in Kenyan war zone near the Somalian border. The main cast for the current series includes Luke Pasqualino, Ben Aldridge, Anthony Oseyemi, Royce Pierreson, Sean Gilder and others. Audience reception has been mostly positive, with Michelle Keegan`s character beginning to settle in with the viewers. Some criticism has targeted stereotypical characters and situations, as well as the largely cliché dialogue.

The show became instantly popular, with an impressive premiere audience of 6.31 million viewers and average viewership of approximately 5 million viewers per episode for the first installment. Review aggregator scores support the overall reception – 8.1/10 on IMDb is certainly a good sign, and although there`s been no word on the series` future, the chances of a renewal seem fairly strong.
UPDATED October 6, 2016: Excellent news for the fans as BBC’s military drama Our Girl – as the second series just wrapped up, Michelle Keegan took to Tweeter to express her gratitude to the viewers and colleagues for the incredible experience, and confirmed her return for the third series, which will be broadcast next year. Series’ EP and creator Tony Grounds has already mentioned that the next installment will be set in an emergency disaster relief situation, but the location has not yet been determined.
