Series` format and info

Cake Wars is a US cake baking competition series airing on Food Network since June 2015, and currently broadcasting its fifth season, which premiered on September 12, 2016. The show is executive produced by Chris Losnegard, hosted by Jonathan Bennett, with master pastry chefs Waylynn Lucas and Ron Ben Israel judging the cake creations. The show appropriately hails from Super Delicious Productions.

The show`s format is practically identical to that of a preceding series, Cupcake Wars, with the exception of the two-round structure in Cake Wars instead of three rounds. The first round is the “Batter Up”, the second is “Cake Off”. The progressive elimination process leads to the final stage, where the winner is chosen. Creative cake themes featured on the show in the past have included The Simpsons, The Sound of Music, Minecraft, Lego, Willy Wonka, and many others.

Ratings and strong renewal potential

The current season features themes like Powerpuff Girls, Wonder Woman, Roald Dahl, The Addams Family and Magic and Trolls. Season 5 premiered to an audience of 0.594 million viewers with a 0.21 rating in the 18-49 demo. It has a 6.1/10 IMDb rating and has been airing practically non-stop since its original debut. As with other culinary contests, Cake Wars attracts people who love to cook, are eager to learn and enjoy watching the work of those who have attained a certain level of skills. Judging by the almost continuous broadcast of the show`s episodes since the original premiere, it has a bright future ahead.
