Series storyline and cast

Chewing Gum is a British sitcom that premiered on October 13, 2016 on E4. It is created and written by the multi-talented playwright, singer, actress and poet Michaela Coel, and executive produced by Jon Rolph and Nana Hughes. The first series contained six 30-minute episodes.

The storyline is built around the character of Tracey Gordon (Michaela Coel), a 24-year-old religious virgin who nonetheless wants to explore sexuality and other worldly pleasures. Tracey`s best friend Candice (Danielle Isaie), her fiancé Ronald (John MacMillan), her uptight sister Cynthia (Susan Wokoma) and a street poet named Connor (Robert Lonsdale) and his mom Mandy (Tanya Franks) round out the cast. She works as a shop assistant, and the twists and turns in her daily life as well as her relationships with her family, friends and neighbors are at the core of the show.

The first series of Chewing Gum scored a 2016 BAFTA nomination for Best Scripted Comedy, which was an immediate and impressive recognition of its future potential.
