Production info and concept

Documentary Now! is a mockumentary series airing on IFC since 2015. The show`s second season premiered on September 14, 2016. It is created and executive produced by Fred Armisen, Bill Hader, Seth Myers and Rhys Thomas and presented by Helen Mirren. Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels and Andrew Singer also serve as executive producers on the program which is produced by Broadway Video.

Each of the Documentary Now! episodes is filmed in a different style, and at once honors and mocks celebrated documentaries. Each season contains seven episodes of perfectly executed satisfying alternative comedy from the creators and cast members of SNL. Among the documentaries spoofed are Grey Gardens, Nanook Revisited, Vice News documentaries, The War Room, Jiro Dreams of Sushi and The Thin Blue Line.

Viewership ratings and renewal

The series became a success with the critical community, earning an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an 8.1/10 IMDb score. The show originally debuted to an audience of 0.16 million viewers, while the second season started off with similar numbers – 0.128 million viewers and 0.05 demo rating for the premiere and 0.112 million and 0.04 rating for the second episode.
