Production info and storyline
Doctor Doctor is a new Australian drama/comedy series launched on Nine Network on September 14, 2016. It is written by Tony McNamara, Alice Bell, Tamara Asher and Liz Dorian and executive produced by Andy Ryan and Jo Rooney. Essential Media and Entertainment is behind the production of the series.
Hugh Knight (Rodger Coster) is the rising star in cardio-surgery and a devilishly handsome man, whose life turns around when he is sent to work as a general practitioner in the Australian outback. This is a punishment imposed by the Medical Tribunal for his inappropriate behavior that after one night of partying leads to unfavorable consequences. The life-changing event knocks him off his pedestal and sets off a chain of events that may change what he thought will be the worst year of his life into exactly what he needed, but did not realize. Nicole Da Silva (Wentworth) plays the role of Hugh’s ex-girlfriend Charlie, and Ryan Johnson’s part is that of Hugh’s brother Matt. The show is set in a fictional country town of Whyhope.
Viewership and early renewal
After the impressive premiere ratings of 0,759 million viewers (0.927 in consolidated estimates), which rose to 0.821 million viewers in the second week, it became clear that the show is not due to end after just one series. An indeed, Doctor Doctor was commissioned for a second series just two episodes into the ten-episode first season on the heels of its excellent viewership. The show has a solid 6.8/10 IMDb score, and enjoys mostly positive viewer reception, praised for its convincing acting, heartwarming and entertaining script, and the show’s suitability for family viewing. Now that the new Australian hit dramedy has already been renewed for a second installment, we expect the charming doctor Knight to have a great future in the Australian outback.
