Series’ background and plot

High Maintenance is a web and TV series that made its original debut on Vimeo in 2012, and was subsequently picked up by HBO for a television-format series. The show, which hails from Janky Clown Productions, premiered on HBO on September 16, 2016 with its first six-episode television season. It was created and executive produced by the husband-and-wife team of Katja Blichfeld and Ben Sinclair, with Russell Gregory also executive producing.

The storyline of this character-driven show follows the adventures of The Guy, a nameless pot courier keeping his clients well-stocked in Brooklyn, and occasionally Manhattan. The gallery of different character types nailed in an amazingly precise manner passes in front of the audience’s eyes. The show is filmed on a limited budget, but that does not prevent it from providing top-notch entertainment.

Viewership and early renewal

399,000 viewers tuned in to see the series’ television premiere on HBO, and 392,000 saw the subsequent episode. High Maintenance was met with positive critical response and praise for the brilliant character portraits, well-crafted glimpses into people’s lives and perfect casting and acting. Besides, it is hilarious, which seems like a natural characteristic for a comedy series, but, unfortunately, is not always present. An 8.1/10 score on IMDb, 81% on Metacritic and 93% on Rotten Tomatoes denote a very positive viewer response. On September 28, 2016 the series was commissioned for a second television season by HBO, with no further details revealed. Stay tuned and we will inform you when any new information comes up.
