Lethal Weapon reboot in a series format
Lethal Weapon is an American police procedural comedy/drama series based on the popular eponymous movie franchise created by Shane Black. Developed by Matt Miller, executive produced by Miller, Dan Lin, Jennifer Gwartz and McG, the series premiered on Fox on September 21, 2016. Lin Pictures, Good Session Productions and Warner Bros. Television are behind the series’ production.
Roger Murtaugh (Damon Wayans),police officer in recovery after a nearly fatal heart attack, and an ex-Navy SEAL dealing with the recent death of his pregnant wife, Martin Riggs (Clayne Crawford) are a pair of cops fighting crime in Los Angeles. They form an unlikely partnership after they get past the initial road bumps in their relationship.
Reviews and potential renewal
The series debuted to mixed reviews, drawing 11.1 million overall viewers. Viewers are mostly unanimous on the fact that Lethal Weapon series makes a decent police dramedy, but it should not be judged against the original franchise. It has a different vibe, and the hardcore fans of the movies may be disappointed. Otherwise, it is action-packed, the production values are excellent, the chemistry between the leads is present. The show’s ratings are fairly decent, although far from stellar – 7.6/10 on IMDb, 56% on Metacritic and 62% on Rotten Tomatoes.
