A new whodunnit on ITV
A British-American thriller series, Paranoid premiered on ITV on September 22, 2016, and should begin streaming globally on Netflix later on in 2016, with the release date yet to be announced. The series is written and executive produced by Bill Gallagher, with Nicola Shindler and Tom Sherry also executive producing. Red Production Company (Happy Valley, Last Tango in Halifax) is behind the series, whose first installment contains eight one-hour episodes.
An investigation of a senseless playground murder of a mother who was playing with her toddler takes a team of star detectives across Europe. Nina Suresh (Indira Varma), Bobby Day (Robert Gleinster), Michael Niles (Neil Stuke), are the detectives drawn into the case that takes a personal turn for each of them, Lucy Cannonbury (Lesley Sharp) is the nearby garden center owner, who becomes the witness and Kevin Doyle is the Ghost Detective, a mysterious figure that appears later on in the series.
Ratings and chances of renewal
With a strong 4.37 million viewers tuning in to see series premiere, things were looking bright, yet on the second week of its broadcast the show slid to 3.04 million viewers. The performances are mostly praised, especially those of Sharp and Glenister, while the cliched plot is not a critics’ favorite aspect of this conspiracy thriller. The show has a 6.6/10 IMDb score, which is not stellar, but still solid, and there seems to be a reasonable chance of its renewal for a second series. Stay tuned, and we’ll keep you up on the future of Paranoid.
