Series plot and basic info

A new American horror and fantasy television series, Van Helsing is created by Neil LaBute and based on Zenescope’s Helsing graphic novels. It hails from Echo Lake Entertainment, Dynamic Television and Nomadic Pictures, and is executive produced by Zadoc Angell, Simon Barry, Dave Brown, Neil LaBute, Daniel March, Michael Narkin, Chad Oaks and Evan Tylor. The pilot was launched commercial-free on July 31, 2016, and the regular broadcast of the freshman season began on September 23, 2016.

Vanessa Helsing is resurrected to find her ancestor Abraham Van Helsing’s worst nightmare come true – vampires have taken over the world. She has the genes of a vampire hunter, so, naturally, she sets out to lead the resistance against the vampire rule. Humankind’s last hope to reclaim that which has been lost, Vanessa will go as far as it is necessary – and beyond.

Viewership and renewal potential

The pilot episode drew an audience of 1.24 million viewers, and the September debut drew 0.83 million, dropping to 0.62 million by the third episode. Van Helsing has not managed to gain ground with either the viewers or critics so far. It has a mediocre 5.5/10 IMDb score and reviews that reveal viewers’ disappointment in the boring writing, the generic plot, the uninspiring characters, and bad acting. It’s difficult to imagine a second season of Van Helsing, but stranger things have been known to happen, so stay tuned for the latest news.
