Production info and series’ background

An American action and adventure television series created by Lee David Zlotoff and developed by Peter M. Lenkov, MacGyver is a remake of the eponymous 1985 ABC series. It hails from 101st Street Television, Atomic Monster Productions, Lionsgate Television and CBS Television Distribution, and is executive produced by Henry Winkler, Paul Downs Colaizzo, James Wan and Lee David Zlotoff. It premiered on September 23, 2016.

Young war hero Angus “Mac” MacGyver (Lucas Till) is a secret US government organization agent, who uses his extraordinary skills to save lives and solve problems. His knack for unconventional problem solving allows him to tackle dangerous missions.

Viewership, negative reviews and chances of renewal

The series premiered with an impressive audience of 10.9 million viewers (14.11 million in Live+7), but suffered a major decline in viewership, losing 25% by the fourth episode, which aired to merely 7.51 million viewers. The MacGyver reboot has received mostly negative reviews from viewers and critics alike, and really terrible review aggregator scores – 4.4/10 on IMDb and 26% on Rotten Tomatoes. It is practically ripped apart by the critics for being bland, generic, far from engaging and lacking the simple charm of the original. Of course, it may last on the wave of nostalgia of the numerous diehard MacGyver fans from the 1980s and 1990s, but it does not seem a particularly likely situation. Stay tuned, and we will monitor the network announcements, bringing you the latest news.
