Series’ concept and cast
America Divided is a five-part documentary series that was launched on Epix on September 30, 2016 in the run-up to the US presidential elections. Created and executive produced by Solly Granatstein, Lucan Read and Richard Rowley with executive production effort from Norman Lear, Shonda Rhimes, Common, Jon Karmen, Dave O’Connor and Justin Wilkes, the show hails from Divided Films in association with RadicalMedia.
The thought-provoking documentary deals with the crisis of inequality in the United States, inequality that pervades the very fabric of American society. There are five episodes divided into eight parts that discuss issues related to political system, education, criminal justice, housing, healthcare and labor. The docu-series features high-profile correspondents, including Rosario Dawson, America Ferrera, Norman Lear, Amy Poehler, Jesse Williams, Peter Sarsgaard, Zach Galifianakis and Common. The celebrities explore the concept of inequality as related to their own life stories.
Current season and renewal prospects
The rampant opiate crisis, political money trail, immigration issues, growing poverty rates, social justice – all of these and an endless list of other problems is significant not only prior to the elections, but on any other day, so it would be great if the provocative series were renewed for another round. Whether or not the celeb-fronted documentary will see another chapter is not clear yet, so please stay tuned, and will be sure to bring you the most current information.
