Deadliest Catch is an award-winning and uber popular reality TV series that follows the real-life adventures of Alaskan fishermen. An original series created for the Discovery Channel by Thom Beers with the first season that has premiered on Discovery on April 12, 2005, the show has completed 11 seasons. The most recent 12th season was released on Discovery Channel on March 29, 2016.
Deadliest Catch chronicles the real-life drama of one of the most dangerous jobs in the world — crab fishing on the unpredictable Bering Sea. Based in the Aleutian Islands port of Dutch Harbor, Alaska, the show features life aboard the fishing vessels during the crab fishing seasons and in the midst of some of the coldest and stormiest waters. With an emphasis on the dangers of the job — hence the name of the show — fans watch as crews duck heavy crab pots swinging into position, and maneuver hundreds of pounds of crab across a deck packed with potentially deadly hazards. The mega success of the Deadliest Catch franchise has spilled into other realms of entertainment, including TV specials, books and even a video game.

The Bering Sea fishermen are used to the dangers and challenges of one of the deadliest fisheries in the world, and this season there will be new additions to the veteran cast of the show. There are issues both at sea and on land that the fishermen need to deal with, and fans were eagerly anticipating the return of the compelling series with its very real drama. Drawing record-breaking viewership, the show is a 16-time Emmy Award winner. The 12th season premiered strongly to 2.548 million viewers and a 0.9 demo rating. UPDATED August 20, 2016: Some news that were well-expected, but still reaffiriming to hear - Discovery Channel`s hit adventure reality series Deadliest Catch is set to return for season 13 to follow the realities of dangerous crab fishing in the Bering Sea. However, the upcoming season may bring some changes in the cast – several captains` contracts with Discovery are expiring soon, and whether or not everyone will want to retain their roles on the show remains to be seen. Series` veteran Sig has had a heart attack, and whether the lifestyle changes he needs to embrace will allow him to remain a key figure on Deadliest Catch is unclear.
