About the series
The Great Australian Bake Off is a baking competition show that is the Australian spinoff of the British mega-hit The Great British Bake Off. It has been on the air since 2013, when it aired on Nine Network. It was subsequently moved to LifeStyle FOOD, with the current third series (second on LifeStyle) premiering on October 11, 2016 on LifeStyle FOOD. The program is produced by FremantleMedia Australia, hosted by Claire Hooper and Mel Buttle and judged by Maggie Beer and Matt Moran.
Ten episodes, twelve amateur bakers, various challenges that have included cakes, pies and tarts, biscuits, chocolate so far during this series. One baker per week is eliminated and one is chosen by the judges as “Baker of the Week”. At the end the last baker standing does not receive any life-changing prizes, as in some other televised cooking competitions, but it does not stop the contest from being a tough one.
Viewership dynamics and renewal potential
The first series of the program aired with an audience of 0.83 million viewers on Nine Network. Following the move to LifeStyle FOOD, which is obviously a channel with a much more limited outreach, its ratings plummeted to approximately 0.1 million viewers. The series is not as popular as it might have been, and is definitely far from the managing to repeat the success of its British original. Stay tuned, and we will inform you whether The Great Australian Bake Off scores another series.
