Production info and storyline
Tutankhamun is an adventure drama series airing on ITV that premiered on October 16, 2016. It was developed by Guy Burt, produced by ITV Studios and directed by Peter Webber. Francis Hopkinson and Catherine Oldfield serve as executive producers on the show. The first series contains four 45-minute episodes.
The storyline focuses on ostracized archaeologist Howard Carter (Max Irons) and his chance meeting with his future patron, the wealthy Lord Carnarvon (Sam Neill). He is the only one who agrees to sponsor Carter`s project, while the rest of Carter`s surroundings are extremely skeptical. Despite the criticism and disbelief, Carter becomes a star in his field after his discovery of one of the forgotten pharaoh`s tombs.
Current series ratings and renewal prospects
Tutankhamun premiered with an impressive audience of 5.97 million viewers, and declined to just over 4 million viewers by episode three. The series is more or less historically accurate, but is also romanticized and aims to entertain more than to inform. The series was not filmed in Egypt, which put off some of the viewers, and, of course, there are always history buffs who find many faults with implausible facts. In any case, the series does provide an entertaining experience overall, and many viewers of all ages are enjoying it. However, the 7.2/10 IMDb rating denotes a mostly positive reception, and since ITV has not made it clear whether this mini-series will have a continuation, we will monitor the news and bring you the latest info.
