Series information and storyline
A new Hulu drama series, Chance, was created by Kem Nunn and Alexandra Cunningham and premiered on October 19, 2016. The series is based on an eponymous novel by Nunn, and received a straight-to-series two-season order of ten episodes each. It is the result of collaboration between Nutmegger, Kem Nunn Stories, Inc, Groundswell Productions and Fox 21 Television Studios.
The series is built around the figure of a San Francisco-based forensic neuropsychiatrist Dr. Eldon Chance (Hugh Laurie) with a number of skeletons in his closet. He is inadvertently, but not completely unwillingly, drawn into the personal life of one of his patients. Mysterious and alluring Jaclyn Blackstone (Gretchen Mol) has an abusive police detective for a husband, and the city`s dark underbelly is revealed from the most unexpected angle as Dr. Chance delves deeper into the situation. While managing his own divorce, he has to save Jaclyn from her own troubled mind, her husband, and deal with troublesome issues like manipulation and corruption.
Reception and future potential
Chance is currently well-received by critics and viewers alike, and earned 8.2/10 on IMDb and 78% on Rotten Tomatoes. Hugh Laurie is praised for his acting, which is not really a surprise, and the series as a whole has earned mostly positive reviews for the impeccable writing and gripping storyline. Since the second season has already been commissioned, the fans have no reason to worry about the future of Chance.
