Australian spinoff of hit British show
First Dates AU is an Australian reality dating television show that debuted on Seven on February 3, 2016. The second series, initially expected to air in 2017, was moved forward and ran between November 1, 2016 and November 23, 2016. The show is narrated by Sam Mac, executive produced by Geraldine Orrock and produced by Warner Bros. International and Television Production Australia.
The series follows the format of the eponymous original British program, which turned out to hit a spot with the audience. The cincept is simple, unpretentious and relatable – two total strangers who are pre-matched by an expert meet at a restaurant for a date. The restaurant featured is the Verandah in Sydney, and the date is thoroughly filmed by remotely operated cameras with no production crew members in sight to ensure the least amount of interference.
Current series ratings and chances of renewal
The Australian version also made it to the British E4 channel, broadcasting its first series there in June 2016. The first series contained 8 episodes, and the current installment is slightly shorter, with 6 episodes commissioned. The reviews are mostly positive, besides, First Dates AU is very successful ratings-wise, peaking at just under one million viewers in the freshman series. The second series viewership ratings ranged from 663,000 to 854,000 million per episode, and while the third series has not been commissioned yet, the probability of a renewal is very high.
