Series information and premise
A new primetime reality competition series on Food Network, Clash of the Grandmas is an in-house Food Network production, and is executive produced by Stephen Kroopnick, David Oliver and Stu Schreiberg. Hosted by Cameron Mathison, the holiday-themed cooking competition kicked off on November 13, 2016. The rotating judge panel includes Nancy Fuller, Eddie Jackson, Monti Carlo, Jamika Pessoa, Aarti Sequeira and Jake Smollett.
Four courageous grandmothers per episode showcase their skills in mastering holiday recipes. The festive show features traditional recipes and reinventions of the classics, from comforting main dishes to intricate desserts, and these grandmas put their lifelong experience to good use, competing for a $10,000 prize in each episode.
Viewership and renewal potential
Grandmas symbolize comfort food, coziness and holiday spirit, and the program plays right off those feelings evoked by our childhood memories. Among the challenges are those related to transforming Thanksgiving stuffing beyond recognition, a potpie that reflects the cultural heritage of each participant, a three-generation family challenge, Christmas-themed challenges, food impostors, and international cuisines. The concept of the show turned out very popular, drawing 1.44 million viewers for the premiere episode, which earned a respectable 0.38 demo rating. Clash of the Grandmas puts a fun twist on the culinary competition premise, and we may very well see another season in the future.
