Cake Wars: Christmas is a seasonal spinoff of the hit Cake Wars series on Food Network. It was launched with a marathon on November 12, 2016, and the new installment began airing its regular episodes on November 14, 2016. There are six episodes in the current series.
It is a holiday-themed baking competition reality series that portrays incredible dessert concoctions. Seven teams are comprised of cake artist, sugar sculptor and food carver, and together they create the most amazing cakes that you can imagine. The current season contains the following episodes: Ultimate Christmas Lights, Who`s Coming Down the Chimney, Santa`s New Ride, Holiday Song, Charlie Brown Celebrates, and Ultimate Gingerbread House. The extra edge on the competition is placed by the five-fold increase in the prize amount - $50,000 against the $10,000 in regular Cake Wars.
Viewership and likelihood of renewal
The cooking competition franchise is very popular, and besides being a showcase of amazing creations, it helps to get the home bakers into the holiday spirit, so that they get inspired with the ideas showcased on Cake Wars: Christmas. The current season premiered to an impressive audience of 0.836 million viewers, earned a 0.26 demo rating for the first episode, and remained at approximately that number, edging only slightly up to 0.839 million and 0.28 in the demo. The show holds a 6.1/10 IMDb score, and is a seasonal favorite along with other staples of the television programming slate, bound for a bright future for many years to come.
