About the series

A new American comedy series, Nightcap premiered on Pop on November 16, 2016. It is produced in collaboration between Lionsgate Television, Dakota Pictures, Trout the Dog Productions, Free 90 Media and Zero Point Zero Production. The freshman season contains ten episodes, and prior to the series` debut a second season was commissioned by the network.

Nightcap is, in fact, the name of the fictional radio show produced by the series` main character Staci (Ali Wentworth). It is hosted by a never-seen homophobic and racist narrator Jimmy, who makes up the most maddening, hilarious and biggest part of Staci`s life. There`s a certain familiarity in Nightcap`s premise that stems from its resemblance to that of 30 Rock, only darker and meaner. The show features an impressive celebrity lineup, including Sarah Jessica Parker, Gwyneth Paltrow, Denis Leary, Michael J. Fox, Whoopi Goldberg, Wendy Willaims and Jason Biggs.

Mixed reception and second season renewal

The mockumentary-style show has an average 5.4/10 IMDb score, but is nonetheless praised for its comedic timing and layered casual humor. A second season has already been commissioned, so the fans need not worry about the future of Nightcap. Despite the mixed reviews and the unimpressive ratings, the show seems to have potential, and has a good chance of blossoming into something more balanced, retaining its grain of grittiness and absurdity which is definitely a distinguishing trait that may keep it afloat beyond the already commissioned second season. Please stay tuned for more information and the release date for Nightcap season 2.
