Show background and production info

Lip Sync Battle UK is a new British reality / competition series that aired on Channel 5 on January 8, 2016. It is based on an eponymous American series that proved a hit on Spike network. The original idea stems from the US talk show Late Night with Jimmy Falon, where the celebrity lip syncing battles were used as a recurring bit. The Uk series is produced by Whiz Kid Entertainment and hosted by rapper Professor Green and ex-Scary Spice Girl Mel B.

The UK version of the show is faster-paced, edgier and aimed at a younger audience than the US series. Two celebrity guests are pitted against each other in a competition to see who`s better at lip syncing two songs of their choice. There`s more of ironic commentary by the hosts, who insert themselves more heavily into the series than their US counterparts, and the show has a nice adult post-watershed vibe to it.

Viewer reception and chances of renewal

The US series has a huge Youtube following and smash hit ratings, and the UK version is no less of a success story for Channel 5. It`s currently the #2 series on the network, second only to some episodes of Celebrity Big Brother with over 2.2 million viewers per episode. Both hosts and the celebrity guests who seem to enjoy a good bit of self-mockery, as well as the audience certainly agree on one thing – the show`s so much fun that it has to be done again. And with this kind of reception, it most certainly will, let`s just wait and make sure that the network agrees.
