Production info and plot
Shameless is a highly acclaimed American black comedy / drama television series based on Paul Abbott`s original UK series by the same name. It premiered on Showtime on January 9, 2011 and is currently in its sixth season, which began broadcasting on January 10, 2016. The series is produced by Bonanza Productions, John Wells Productions, Warner Bros. Television and Showtime Networks.
The series portrays the life of a seriously dysfunctional family consisting of the deluded alcoholic father Frank Gallagher (William H. Macy) and his six children, aged from 4 to 23. The family lives in extreme poverty, as Paul Abbott put it, “it`s not blue collar, it`s no collar”. Most of Shameless` action revolves around the various troubles that the characters get themselves into and try to get out of, the darkly hilarious and very recognizable family dynamics and the numerous cheat-the-system schemes that Frank comes up with.
Viewer reception and renewal
Shameless was renewed for an undoubtedly outrageous seventh season right after the sixth season debut. It will consist of 12 episodes, the shooting is to begin later on this year. The sixth season won both critics` and viewers` approval right from the outset, continuing the very positive trend of the series` run as a whole. The current cycle premiered to an audience of 1.439 million viewers and a 0.63 rating in the 18-49 demographic, and the subsequent two episodes saw an increase in viewership to just under 1.7 million viewers and a 0.75 million viewers. It is no wonder that this awesome series with its great cast, original plot and a touching, relatable quality of the world created by the authors is renewed yet again. UPDATED June 3, 2016: The release date for the seventh season of the outrageous and hilarious black comedy Shameless has been confirmed by Showtime. The upcoming 12-episode installment will air on October 2, 2016 at 9pm. The series will premiere on Showtime`s cable, digital and on demand platforms. Starting in July, Showtime will experience extra competition on Sunday nights, as Starz plans to move some of its original programming to Sundays as well, so that might affect the ratings in the short-run.
