About the series
A new live-action family and children`s television series, Just Add Magic, premiered on Amazon on January 14, 2016, with the pilot episode having aired on January 15, 2015. The series is based on a Cindy Callaghan book, is produced by Amazon Studios and Pictures in a Row and executive produced by Andrew Orenstein and Joe Nussbaum.
Just Add Magic focuses on three pre-teen girls who love to cook and accidentally come about an ancient recipe book in Kelly`s (Olivia Sanabia) attic. Kelly, Hannah (Aubrey K. Miller) and Darbie (Abby Donnell) discover that the recipes have unusual names for a reason – they are magical and have very real immediate impact. The girls are faced with the temptation to use magic in order to deal with their everyday problems, but there is one much more serious problem that Kelly needs to solve – finding a cure for her grandma`s mysterious illness.
Reviews, ratings and chances of renewal
The show seems to offer a wholesome viewing experience suitable for the whole family. It scored an 80% viewer rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and an 8.0/10 on IMDb based on 291 votes. The viewer reviews are very positive, citing good acting by the series` young stars, the emphasis on positive and friendly relationships, a suspenseful storyline and the absence of gory episodes or sexual overtones. It seems like a great show to renew, but there`s been no word from Amazon yet on either a renewal or a cancelation of Just Add Magic.
