Basic info and plot line

Broadchurch is a British crime drama that pivots on the murder mystery of a young boy and the search by detectives for his killer. Written and created by Chris Chibnall, the series was inspired by the setting of Jurassic Coast of Britain and by the music of Olafur Arnalds, who also composed the soundtrack for the show. The first series debuted on ITV on March 4, 2013 and the second series premiered on January 5, 2015. Broadchurch series 3 was renewed on February 23, 2015 and is scheduled to be released sometime in 2016.

Set in a fictional small town of Dorset, Broadchurch unveils the murder mystery of an 11-year old boy that has been unfolding for two series. Staring David Tennant as Alec Hardy and Olivia Colman as Ellie Miller, the second series focused on two plot lines: the trial of Joe Miller and the re-opening of the Sandbrook case. To keep the audiences guessing, producers went to great lengths to keep the identity of the murderer a secret even from the actors. The third series was confirmed shortly after the second series finale and filming began in the summer of 2015.

Broadchurch has been nominated for, and won, several prestigious awards, including the BAFTA Awards and BAFTA Craft Award. With an average of over 9 million viewers per series in the U.K., the show has received critical acclaim in Britain with rave reviews calling it a “bona fide national obsession.” But while the Brits have gobbled up the drama, the series has not scored high ratings in all countries. In the U.S. ratings were negligible, even on streaming video sites like Amazon and iTunes. Series 3 of Broadchurch is currently in post-production and is expected to air on ITV sometime in 2016.
