Program concept and production info
Life or Debt is an all-new and poignant reality series airing on Spike TV since March 1, 2016. The series was developed and produced by Ugly Brother Studios, with Tim Duffy, Mike Duffy and Tim Warren executive producing. The first season of Life or Debt is set to contain 10 one-hour episodes.
At a time when three quarters of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck with no safety cushion, it`s way too easy to get into debt that very soon turns out to be an unbearable burden. Spike and personal finance consultant (not just any consultant, but an ex-Fortune 500 company`s vice president) Victor Antonio attempt to assist a number of families on the verge of total financial ruin to regain a sense of stability and find a way out of the financial troubles of various scale. Some tough love, advice on how to streamline expenses and a revelation of the underlying problems that probably led the families to the situations that are portrayed are all a part of the show.
Ratings and renewal potential
The series is averaging upwards of 400,000 viewers, and has a 0.2 adults 18-49 demo rating. The 9.2/10 score on IMDb, although based on a small number of ratings, is still impressive and gives an idea of how desperately needed a show like this is. It is certainly a timely and easily relatable concept for a series, since the consumerism that`s inherent in today`s world makes many people make very unreasonable spending decisions, to put it very lightly. Hopefully, Life or Debt will provide useful answers to some of the audience`s questions, and if it is able to deter at least someone from committing the same mistakes as the people portrayed on the show, it`s definitely a worthwhile creation.
