About the series
Plebs is a British comedy television series airing on ITV2 since 2013. It`s produced by Rise Films and executive produced by Caroline Leddy and Sam Leifer. The current highly anticipated third series has premiered on April 4, 2016 after a break of almost 18 months since the second series bowed out.
The series explores the issues familiar to most contemporary people such as holding a job, finding women to engage in sexual intercourse with, and finding your way up the social ladder. Everything sounds like you`ve seen and heard it all before, but you haven`t – because the series is set in ancient Rome. Three young men from the lower class suburbs of ancient Rome – two free men, Marcus (Tom Rosenthal) and Stylax (Joel Fry) and their cheeky and lazy slave Grumio (Ryan Sampson) live their day-to-day lives and demonstrate that not much has changed in thousands of years. The rest of the cast includes Tom Basden, Bella Dayne, Karl Theobald, Doon Mackichan and Tom Davis.
Ratings, current season and renewal potential
The series boasts a 7.9/10 IMDb score, and has a Royal Television Society Award for Best Scripted Comedy and a BAFTA nomination for Doon Mackichan for Best Female Performance in a Comedy Role. The first two series were a ratings success for ITV2, having premiered to over 1 million viewers each, with the second series earning a consolidated average of 924,000 viewers. However, the third series debut attracted just 670,000 viewers, which was equivalent to 3.7% share of the audience. What this means for the future of Plebs is still unclear, as the greater part of the season is still ahead.
