TV Land officially canceled The Soul Man season 6

This article has the most up-to-date info on the status of The Soul Man season 6 as we continuously monitor the news to keep you in the know. Unfortunately, TV Land has officially canceled the series. There will be no season 6.

About the series

A TV Land sitcom and Hot in Cleveland spinoff, The Soul Man has been running since 2012. It was created by Cedric the Entertainer and Suzanne Martin and is produced by Bird and A Bear Entertainment, Hazy Mills Productions, SamJen Productions and TV Land Original Productions. The show is presently in its 12-episode fifth season, which is slated to be the final one, as it was announced together with the renewal information last year.

The Soul Man focuses on Reverend Boyce “The Voice” Ballantine, an R&B superstar who became a minister after he received “the calling” while enjoying a lavish lifestyle in Las Vegas. He subsequently relocated to St. Louis where he became a preacher in his father`s church. His family, however, has some serious qualms about giving up the high life. This season Boyce will run for mayor, and the final season will pivot around the campaign as well as Boyce`s family.

Viewer reception and cancelation

The show has been well received by the critics and the audiences, and has been a solid performer, averaging a 2.2 rating in the African American 25-54 demo, and a 2.65 among African American Women 25-54, which made it TV Land`s highest-ranking original series in these age groups. The show provided popular family viewing, and the producers expressed their gratitude to the cast and crew as they announced their decision to end the show.

Season 5 recap

The 12-episode fifth season of The Soul Man has concluded on TV Land on June 22, 2016. Despite the show`s positive reviews, there will be no sixth season, as The Soul Man has been canceled. While the show has been a ratings hit in its first two seasons, the last three installments have experienced a significant drop in ratings. The series finale was broadcast with an audience of 322,000 and a 0.07 ratings in the 18-49 demographic. The last episode wrapped up the long-term storylines as it bid farewell to the loyal fans. In the final episode Boyce finally wins the election and becomes St. Louis mayor, Lolli grows more comfortable with the concept of being the mayor`s wife, and Stamps reveals to Boyce that he`s going to Virginia to collaborate with Alice several days after the election. The fans have been warned of the cancelation far in advance, so hopefully everyone has grown to accept the departure of the family sitcom.
