About the series

Kong: King of the Apes is a brand new Netflix children`s CGI-animated series. It is produced by 41 Entertainment and Sprite Animation Studios, and executive produced by Avi Arad (Iron Man, Spider-Man movies, many X-Men films). The series was released in its entirety on April 15, 2016.

The show does not repeat the classic Skull Island story, but sends the giant ape into the future. It is 2050, and Kong is a most-wanted fugitive after bringing chaos to the Natural History and Marine Preserve on Alcatraz Island. Turns out, however, that the beast is not to blame, as there is a villain behind the plan to terrify the world with an army of robotic dinosaurs. He is the one who has also framed the giant ape and made him public enemy number one. Kong is the only force able to stop the evil genius. There are only three children who realize the truth and are willing to risk their lives to help him avoid capture, while Kong fights to save humanity from imminent destruction.

Ratings and potential renewal

The series currently has a rather low IMDb rating – 5/10 based on just 9 reviews, which makes it somewhat unreliable, but gives some very approximate idea of viewer reception. Series` creator Avi Arid is responsible for some of the most popular action and adventure franchises in the world, and Netflix is hoping that his expertise will be very valuable in making Kong: King of the Apes a hit for the network. Whether or not this will actually work out in this manner remains to be seen, since as of the moment there is not enough information to make a reliable judgement on viewer or critical reception. Please stay tuned for information on the future of the series.
