Storage Wars is a reality series airing on A&E since 2010. The show is narrated by Thom Beers, executive produced by Beers, Robert Sharenow, Elaine Frontain Bryan and Philip D. Segal and produced by Original Productions, FremantleMedia and A&E Networks. The current 9th season premiered on April 5, 2016. There are several localized spinoff series that stemmed from Storage Wars, such as the ones in Texas, New York, Canada and France.

The show portrays professional buyers who, as allowed by California state law, search for gems inside the unclaimed contents of storage lockers whose rent was unpaid for over three months. The contents are sold for cash in a single-package option by an auctioneer. The catch is that the potential buyers only get to have a five-minute look in order to figure out whether a lot is worthwhile and might be profitable when the items are resold. Some of the assumptions made by the buyers are truly off-the-wall, and raise serious issues of credibility.

Controversy, reviews and renewal potential

The critical reception of Storage Wars has initially been mixed, referring to the series` as both trivial and magnetic. It has a 6.5/10 IMDb rating and 7.8 on TV.com. There has been serious controversy over the authenticity of the transactions portrayed, up to the point of an actual settled lawsuit. However, the series seems to grow on people, as it features many recurrent professional buyers that viewers get somewhat attached to and begin to follow their business pursuits on screen. It is a hit with the audience due to the fact that there is hope for anyone in the activities portrayed in Storage Wars, and the fans don`t seem to care whether it`s completely true to life, or utterly fake. The ratings, however, have been slumping over the course of the series` run, and the future of the veteran A&E staple is not completely clear at this point, so please stay tuned for announcements.
