Basic info and storyline
Outlander is a British-American historical drama and science fiction television series based on the Outlander book series by Diana Gabaldon. The series was developed by Ronald D. Moore, executive produced by Moore, Jim Kohlberg, Andy Harries, Maril Davis, Anne Kenney, Tori Graphia and Ira Steven Behr and produced by Sony Pictures, Left Bank Pictures, Story Mining and Supply Company and Tall Ship Productions. The first episode consisted of 16 episodes and aired on Starz in mid-2014, while the second season premiered on April 9, 2016.
Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe) is a married WWII nurse who is transported back in time 200 years back – from 1945 to 1743 Scotland. There she crosses paths with the attractive Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and consequently becomes involved in the Jacobite risings.
Excellent reception and probable renewal
The first season of Outlander was very well received in the USA, with a 73% Metacritic score, and 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, whereas the British audience response was more mixed. The second season has been praised by the critics for well-written script, that resulted in an intensely intriguing plot full of shifting allegiances, sweeping romance and unexpected twists. Outlander has won several awards, including several People`s Choice Awards and Critics` Choice Awards, and a Saturn Award, among others. The second season premiere scored a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demo, and 1.46 million total viewers, the highest ratings ever for the series, and twice the audience of the 2014 series premiere. Considering the positive reviews and the excellent ratings, Outlander is very likely to be picked up for another season, so wi`ll be sure to monitor network announcements and promptly inform you of a renewal.

The 13-episode second season of Outlander, a sci-fi / historical drama series has concluded on Starz on July 9, 2016. The season finale drew an audience of 1.15 million viewers. The compelling final episode “Dragonfly in Amber” has made quite an impression on both viewers and critics, and is praised for its superb quality, tightly written storyline and excellent acting.Claire and Jamie failed to stop the Battle of Culloden, which the whole season was building up to, and did not change history, but their love is not over just yet. Even though the parting scene is heartbreaking, and Claire is sure that she`s departing for good, never to see him again. The 90-minute extended finale took the audience intermittently between the 18th century and 1968, where viewers were introduced to Claire and Jamie`s daughter Brianna and Rev. Wakefield`s handsome adopted son Roger. The lovely moment of hope when Claire finds out that Jamie has survived the battle and its aftermath makes waiting for the upcoming third season a bit easier.
