Excellent ratings and cancelation

Person of Interest has had an incredibly successful run, garnering amazing reviews, many awards and approval ratings from the review aggregator sites. It has also had a very successful international run. The series US viewership peaked at 16 million in the second season, but the current fifth season has premiered to a much more modest 7.35 million viewers. However, despite all of these amazing feats, this fresh, gritty, amazing show is coming to an end. In mid-March CBS has confirmed the long-suspected news — the fact that the upcoming fifth season will be the final one for Person of Interest. Meanwhile there`s a lot to enjoy in the remaining part of the ongoing season, so let`s relish the final part of the story.

Season 5 recap

The 13-episode fifth – and final – season of science fiction criminal drama series Person of Interest has wrapped up on CBS on June 21, 2016. The series has been very positively received by the critics and the audience, but has experienced a significant decline in ratings in the last completed season. The series has averaged in the range between 12-16 million viewers in the first four chapters, while the fifth installment saw a sharp drop to 6.14 million viewers. The series finale, titled “return 0” aired with an audience of 6.51 million viewers. It has completed several story arcs, but several questions still remain, since the last season was commissioned with a smaller than usual episode order, and did not have a chance to neatly wrap up all of the open ends. John Reese sacrifices his life for his friend Harold Finch, Samaritan is defeated by the Machine, and Shaw is forced to clean up after Bear. However, Fusco`s fate remained unresolved, Machine`s future activity is also unclear along with the issue of whether Finch will ever find out whether or not the Machine survived. These, and the rest of the audience`s questions are bound to remain unanswered, unless the show is picked up by another network.
