Format and cast

A brand new television game show First Impressions has premiered on USA Network on May 10, 2016. It hails from Renegade 83 and Gaspin Media and is executive produced by Dana Carvey, Jeff Gaspin, David Garfinkle and Jay Renfroe. Carvey is the expert-in-residence, and Freddie Prinze Jr. is the host of the unscripted series.

Saturday Night Live alum Carvey acts as a mentor to contestants, and actor Prinze hosts the half-hour battles between amateur impressionists, with each of the episodes devoted to one persona. This season the studio audience will vote for the best impressionist every week. Celebrity appearances are featured throughout the series, and are an integral part of the format. Among those set to appear and mentor the aspirin impressionists are Jay Leno, Steve Carell, Jon Lovitz, Kevin Nealon, Kate Flannery, Yvette Nicole Brown and Tom Arnold.

Viewership and renewal possibilities

The show has premiered to 734,000 viewers, slipping somewhat to 677,000 viewers for the second episode. The show garners a 0.3 rating in the much-coveted adults 18-49 demographic. It seems like an entertaining and original program, and the audience seems to agree. First Impressions is part of USA Network`s attempt to diversify its content, along with family documentary series Chrisley Knows Best and satirical Donny! series, and a successful attempt at that, so we very well might see another season of the show in the future.
