Series info and format

A popular British topical celebrity panel game show, Mock the Week has been on the air since 2005. It is created by Dan Patterson and Mark Levinson (both are behind Whose Line Is It Anyway) and presented by Dara Ó Brian. The series hails from Angst Productions and is currently in its fifteenth series, which premiered on June 9, 2016 on BBC Two.

The satirical panel show has two opposing teams of three people each. One is led by Hugh Dennis, with two guests on it, the other consists entirely of guest panelists. The competition between them is merely formal, and its whole purpose is to supply the starting point for the discussions and improvisational comedy that follows. Winning and losing is very arbitrary and really does not matter to anyone on the set. There are regular rounds, such as Headliners, Wheel of News, Scenes we`d like to see and If this is the answer, what`s the question?, and occasional rounds.

Popularity and renewal prospects

The veteran comedy show is a popular one and is likely to see more series released until O`Brian gets tired of it. There`s been some controversy and criticism around the show, mostly regarding the overbearing use of profanity, particularly by Frankie Boyle who`s left the series in 2010. Another aspect that`s not popular with everyone is the aggressive atmosphere, especially towards new guests. However, clearly, there are enough fans who find the program edgy, sharp and highly entertaining and would love to see it continue – which it almost certainly will.
