Storyline and cast
Modern Family is an American mockumentary television series that revolves around three families living in Los Angeles who are interrelated through Jay Pritchett and his children. The series was conceived by Christopher Lloyd and Steven Levitan while sharing stories of their own families. With generally positive reviews, the series has had a successful seven-season run, with season 7 premiering on ABC on September 23, 2015.
Pritchett-Dunphy-Tucker clan is a wonderful large and blended family that gives the viewer an honest and hilarious look into the warm and twisted reality of the modern family life. With Jay Pritchet, who is remarried to a much younger Columbian woman, being the patriarchal type, the three families in the series are his own, his daughter Claire’s, who is married to Phil Dunphy, and his son Mitchell’s, who is married to Cameron Tucker. There are six children between the three families and it’s kind of hard to keep track of who is whose child in all of the commotion that happens on a daily basis.
Though the show has received some criticism for casting the women as housewives and the husbands as successful career men, Modern Family still receives very positive reviews from critics and viewers. It has won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series for the past five years. In 2011, it has also won the Golden Globe for Best Television Series. With such popularity, we don’t think the show will retire any time soon. Thus, we expect Modern Family Season 8 to come out in the fall of 2016.
Season 7 recap
Modern Family`s seventh 22-episode season has just ended on May 18, 2016, but fans already have an eighth season to look forward to, confirmed by ABC in March. The series finale was watched by an audience of 6.8 million viewers, which is actually over a million lower than the overall season average of 7.9 million viewers. The comparison of the current season to the previous one is not very favorable at all, since the seventh season has lost approximately 1.5 million viewers per episode. The season finale of Modern Family was criticized for being overstuffed with what were supposed to be emotional moments, and lacking focus and emotional depth, as well as failing to lay a foundation for the next season. Actually the whole season was guilty of being unable to follow through on its storylines and lacking character development. The series finale sees a multitude of events popping up as Alex comes back rom college, Claire is nervous about firing an employee, Jay returns to work, Mitchell and Cam are forced to spend the summer apart, Haley is surprised to find out that Andy`s about to turn down a job offer in order to be close to her, and Phil realizes that Luke is most likely sexually active. It does sound like too much for a half-hour episode, and, hopefully, the next season of Modern Family will have more clarity to it.
