Series info and plot
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is a US animated superhero adventure television series based on the eponymous Marvel comics created by James Gunn and Nicole Perlman. The freshman season debuted on September 26, 2015 on Disney XD as a part of the Marvel Universe block. The series is executive produced by Alan Fine, Dan Buckley, Joe Quesada and Jeph Loeb, and produced by Marvel Television and Marvel Animation.
The Guardians of the Galaxy team is comprised of Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Rocket Racoon and Groot. They are tasked with preventing a special artifact, the Spartaxian CryptoCube with the map that shows the location of the Cosmic Seed from falling into the hands of the evil Thanos, Ronan the Accuser, Korath the Pursuer, the Ravagers, or many of the other numerous villains who would want to abuse the power of the Cosmic Seed.
Freshman season and renewal
The animated series’ first season ran between September 26, 2015 and July 24, 2016, averaging 0.51 million viewers per episode. In early October 2015 an announcement was made commissioning The Guardians of the Galaxy for a second season on the heels of positive viewer reception. The sophomore season is scheduled to air in 2017 and will feature The Guardians of the Galaxy and The Avengers cooperating in order to put an end to the evil planned by the mad alien scientist The High Evolutionary. Another ancient weapon is discovered, and The Guardians must protect it from getting into the wrong hands.
