Irish soap on British TV
A rare instance of an Irish original series successful outside Ireland, Red Rock is a criminal drama and soap opera that has aired on TV3 in Ireland and has premiered on BBC One on July 11, 2016. It is created by Peter McKenna (East Enders, The Musketeers, Casualty), executive produced by Gareth Philips and produced by Element Pictures and Company Pictures.
The series focuses on a Garda station in Dublin, and the personal lives and professional exploits of its service men and women. The investigation is one long-running storyline, another plot strand is the war between the Kiely clan and the Hennessys. The ensemble cast includes Jane McGrath, David Crowley, Patrick Ryan, Boyko Krastanov, Andrea Irvine, Valerie O’Connor, India Mullen, Denise McCormack, Paul Rice, Stephen Cromwell, Anthony Brophy and many others. The 80 shorter original episodes that the first series was comprised of were merged into forty 40-minute episodes for the BBC One broadcast.

Red Rock has garnered lots of critical acclaim, winning three awards and receiving eight nominations. The series premiere on BBC One aired to an impressive audience of more than one million viewers. It has a 6.8/10 IMDb score and is praised all-around for its powerful female characters, intriguing intertwining storylines and grittiness.
