Storyline and cast
Liv and Maddie is an American teen sitcom television series starring Dove Cameron in a dual role where she plays identical twins with entirely different personalities. Created by created by John D. Beck and Ron Hart and produced by It`s a Laugh Productions for Disney Channel, the series premiered on July 19, 2013.
Liv and Maddie is a half-hour sitcom that follows identical twin sisters — Liv Rooney, a girly girl who was a teen actress in Hollywood- and Maddie, a stellar student and sports-loving tomboy. When Liv returns home from Hollywood after her hit TV show ends, she has to readjust from the glitz and glamour of movie cameras to normal suburban life.
Aimed at teens and tweens, Liv and Maddie certainly offers tons dramatic comedy fit for the entire family. Filmed at Hollywood Centre Studios in Los Angeles, the show was originally set along the lines of the modern-day Brady Bunch. However producers decided to change the storyline and character names, but kept the original cast.
Following a 24 episode second season, the Liv and Maddie returned to the Disney Channel for season 3 on September 13, 2015. It is also available for streaming on Amazon and iTunes. The series received mixed to average audience reviews and less than stellar ratings. The 20-episode third season of teen sitcom Liv & Maddie has wrapped up on June 19, 2016. The viewership for the season finale was unimpressively less than the season average. 1.53 million viewers tuned in to the last episode, whereas season three viewership has peaked at 2.57 for episode 5. The season finale centered on the huge fight between Liv and Maddie after Maddie accepts an offer from the college of her dreams in California, ignoring the fact that Liv made some sacrifices of her own, turning down Voltage in order not to be away from her twin. Disney has already announced the renewal of Liv & Maddie for a fourth season, so fans need not worry, their favorite twins will be back. The series` creators have hinted that the Rooney twins will reconcile by the fourth season, and that Lauren Lindsey Donzis will be joining the cast as Ruby, their Californian cousin. Updated December 26, 2015: The teen-targeted sitcom is coming back for another season. Even in light of the average viewership numbers and unimpressive reviews, after airing nine of the third season episodes Disney decided to give the series another chance. Liv and Maddie, identical twins with completely different personalities will go through more of the usual teen and tween-related drama and have a laugh while they are at it. UPDATED June 30, 2016: Way ahead of the fourth season premiere, which is scheduled for this fall, Disney Channel has decided to cancel its original sitcom Liv and Maddie. The reasons for the cancelation are nothing out of the ordinary – rarely have declining ratings been a good sign. Sorry, fans, there will be no season five of your favorite sitcom, but there`s still the fourth season to look forward to in the fall. Hopefully, it will be able to reconcile the story arcs and leave the audience with a feeling of completion.
