About the show

The Jim Gaffigan Show is an American comedy television series created and produced by the comedian Jim Gaffigan. Following the life of a fictionalized version of the real Jim Gaffigan, the first episode of the sitcom premiered on TV Land on July 15, 2015, drawing 4.0 million viewers, and the twelve-episode second season debuted with two back-to-back episodes on June 19, 2016.

Jim Gaffigan is a successful stand-up comedian, actor and author. He has received several Grammy nominations for his work and universal critical acclaim. In The Jim Gaffigan Show, Gaffigan plays a fictionalized version of himself and deals with a fictionalized life of his family. His wife Jennie Gaffigan is played by an actress, much like all other members of his family and circle of close friends. The series mainly revolves around such issues as raising children in a small apartment in Manhattan, being Catholic, and dealing with the wife’s ex-boyfriend being her best friend.

Ratings and prospects of renewal

With a good serving of celebrity cameos, including Janeane Garofalo and Chris Rock, a well-written script and a steady fan-base, the show has been very successful and is being aired during primetime on TV Land. So far the show has an 8.5/10 IMDb score, with the first season viewership actually growing week-to-week. The second season numbers are significantly lower, the season premiere episode scored 0.471 million viewers and a 0.1 rating in the 18-49 demo. The three subsequent episodes have averaged just above 0.4 million viewers, and with numbers like these the future is not looking exceptionally bright for the show.
