Show information and storyline

Lopez, a partly autobiographical sitcom TV series, debuted on TV Land on March 30, 2016 with a 12-episode freshman season. It was created by John Altschuler, Dave Krinsky and Jeff Stilson, produced by Travieso Productions, Altschuler Krinsky Works, 3 Arts Entertainment and Dakota Pictures.

George Lopez stars as a semi-fictional version of his own persona. The issues that he faces in his everyday life as a popular comedian include personal relationships, staying true to his roots and the working class Latino community where he grew up, adjusting to his celebrity status and the overwhelming influence of social media in the glitzy world of entertainment. Maronzio Vance plays Maronzio, George`s friend and colleague and Alexis Gilmore is Sheila, George`s love interest. The rest of the cast includes Anthony Campo, James Michael Connor, Ashley Zamora and Hayley Huntley.

Viewership, reception and renewal potential

The series has been well-received and gathered praise for its innovative perspective, brutal honesty and, of course, the charm of America`s most successful Hispanic American comedian. Lopez opened to 646,000 viewers, sliding to 490,000 for the second episode, and has a positive 6.7/10 IMDb score. The critics appreciate the more complex personality of the title character than was portrayed in George Lopez` previous shows George Lopez and Saint George. The new Lopez does not try to be the nice guy, but has traits that might or might not be likable, which makes him a more realistic and interesting character. Whether or not Lopez will be renewed for another season has not been announced, so please stay tuned for updates.
