About the series

A popular Australian reality show, I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! is a spinoff of the British eponymous original program that was created in 2002. The Australian version has originally premiered in 2015, has aired for two successful series and has recently been renewed for a third installment, which is set to hit the screens in 2017. The latest completed series premiered on January 31, 2016 and concluded on March 13, 2016. The show’s produced by ITV Studios Australia and presented by Julia Morris and Chris Brown.

Well-known personalities from different walks of life, although mostly from the media world, are isolated in a camp set up in the jungle. The contestants have to compete for food and any extra luxuries that they may receive while at the camp, and get voted out by the viewers in each episode. In the end the winner receives the title of King/Queen of the Jungle and $100,000 to be donated to a charity of their choice, in addition to their personal reimbursement for participating in the series. If someone chooses to leave the series for reasons other than an emergency, he/she has to say “I’m a celebrity, get me out of here!”, and have their compensation considerably reduced.

Popularity and renewal

Each of the two seasons contained 31 episodes and was filmed in Kruger National Park in South Africa. Both the first and the second series viewership hovered about the 0.65 million mark, and the last completed series recently received a Logie Awards nomination for Best Reality Program, which is still pending. Reality series of this type have been around long enough, and this franchise offers the audience a unique opportunity to see celebrities way out of their comfort zone, something which the public rarely has access to. I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! has already been renewed for a third series, so all fans have to do now is stay tuned for a release announcement.
