Storyline and cast

A new BBC Three sitcom written by Joe Tucker and Lloyd Woolf, Witless has premiered on April 22, 2016. It hails from Objective Productions, with Tucker, Woolf, Gregor Sharp and Layla Smith serving as executive producers.

The mismatched flatmates - straight-laced Rhona (Zoe Boyle) and extravagant Leanne (Kerry Howard) - have to enter a witness protection program after accidentally seeing a gangland shooting. Much of the comedy derives from the fact that the two can`t stand the sight of each other and were about to move apart when they were suddenly forced to rely on each other. There`s a very real threat on the lives of the frenemy duo, as there are two very young (teenage) gangster characters sent by the mob to do away with them. Among the other cast members are Nicholas Fruin, Tom Cawte, Samuel Anderson, T`Nia Miller, John Hodgkinson and others.

Ratings and potential renewal

A 6.4/10 IMDb indicates mostly positive reviews for Witless, BBC Three`s first original series, since its move online earlier this year. Performances by the two lead actresses are hailed as perfectly timed and vivacious, and the series as a whole is fast-paced, well-written and funny. Critics agree that the series shows promise and even during the somewhat flawed moments in the script the chemistry between Boyle and Howard saves the day. There have been no announcements regarding the renewal of Witless for another series yet, so stay tuned for the most recent developments in the fate of the ambitious show.
