Series information and concept

Barely Famous is a US reality television parody scripted series broadcast on VH1. It originally premiered in March 2015, with the second season debuting on June 30, 2016. It is created, executive produced by and stars Erin and Sara Foster. Good Clean Fun Productions and 3 Arts Entertainment are behind the production of the show. Both seasons contain 6 half-hour episodes.

The series pokes fun at the reality genre, as Erin and Sarah are portrayed as fame-crazed, stereotypical, neurotic sisters in the spotlight of their own reality show. The exaggerated satirical versions of themselves are event-hopping, chatting with celebrities (numerous cameo appearances are made by many A-list personas) and inconspicuously deconstructing the in-crowd scene for the audience.

Critical reception and renewal prospects

The “non-reality reality” show has a 7.4/10 rating and the second season viewership is actually beating the freshman chapter. The ratings aren`t that grand in absolute numbers, but there is a positive dynamic. The sophomore chapter premiered to 0.217 million viewers (compare to first season premiere @0.122 million viewers), and is praised for its innovative approach, satire galore, likable stars, and, of course, for being very funny. Sara and Erin claim the legacy of The Larry Sanders Show, The Comeback and Extras, and their goal was to demonstrate the inherent manipulativeness of reality TV, as well as the vanity of Hollywood from the inside, and they seemed to have succeeded in a lighthearted and hilarious manner. There is an excellent chance of a third season, but no announcements have come from VH1 yet, so we`ll make sure to inform you as soon as the future of Barely Famous is decided on.
